New Rome Braves Manager Jonathan Schuerholz was front and center for fans and media Monday evening at the 12th Annual Hot Stove Gathering at the Forum.
Schuerholz was an original member of the Rome Braves as a player, helping to secure the 2003 South Atlantic League Championship. He was named Rome Braves manager during the offseason and became the headline attraction at Monday’s Hot Stove event.
Schuerholz, whose famous father was the general manager and architect of the 1990’s Atlanta Braves dynasty, told the crowd he looks forward to working with coaches in Rome that he’s known for many years;
“That comfort is going to be a huge thing. To not really have to go over those first couple of ‘how’s this guy do that or how does this guy do that.’ I know how these guys work, I know we like to work and we’re going to work. And it just makes my job so much easier when you have the faith and the trust in your staff to let them do what they need to do.”
Fans turned out for autographs, pictures and ballpark food and got to meet the entire 2014 Rome Braves field staff. Several Rome Braves alumni were also in attendance including 2013 South Atlantic League All-Star pitcher Shae Simmons.
Schuerholz says he and the rest of the Rome Braves coaching staff will report to Orlando for Spring Training February 25.
